St. Paul’s University Achieves Milestone Registration as a Qualification Awarding Body (QAB) by KNQA

St. Paul’s University has taken another significant step towards strengthening the credibility and global recognition of university qualifications in Kenya following its official registration as a Qualification Awarding Body (QAB) by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA)

This landmark milestone was highlighted on September 1, 2026, during a high-level KNQA consultative engagement held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). The meeting brought together key leaders across the education sector, including Vice-Chancellors, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Principals, and representatives from universities nationwide. Senior officials from the Ministry of Education, the Commission for University Education (CUE), the TVET Authority (TVETA), the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), and KICD were also in attendance.

Representing SPU at the event were Dr. Petronnila Otuya, Dean of the School of Education and Social Sciences, and Mr. George Gachuru, Director of TVET. They formally received the University’s QAB Registration Certificate from Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Higher Education and Research.

Strengthening Quality and Public Trust

During the event, KNQA commended St. Paul's University alongside other pioneering institutions for completing the registration process. The Authority emphasized that QAB registration serves to complement—rather than replace—sector-based accreditation frameworks, creating an added layer of quality assurance.

Central to this initiative is the National Qualifications Database (NQD), which will provide:

  • A trusted national record for seamless verification of qualifications.
  • Enhanced learner mobility across national and international institutions.
  • Data-driven insights for nationwide education and skills planning.
  • Increased public confidence in Kenya's overall qualifications system.

Building on 123 years of educational heritage, this QAB registration represents far more than formal regulatory compliance for St. Paul's University. It reaffirms SPU's unwavering commitment to academic quality, accountability, continuous innovation, and producing qualifications that are trusted both locally and globally.
