Starting 2026 with Faith: A Special New Year Community Service at SPU

The St. Paul’s University community ushered in the New Year 2026 on a spiritually uplifting note this Thursday, January 1st. Organized by the University Chaplaincy, the special New Year Community Service brought together staff and students in a powerful moment of reflection and collective prayer.

The service was held physically at the Main Hall in our Limuru Campus, while the Nakuru and Nairobi campuses joined the fellowship virtually, demonstrating our unity as one SPU family across the country.

A Message of Hope: "Trusting God for the Promised Future"

We were honored to host Prof. Kamau Ngamau, Vice-Chancellor of The Cooperative University of Kenya (CUK), as our guest speaker. Delivering an inspiring sermon titled "Trusting God for the Promised Future," Prof. Ngamau drew deep insights from Isaiah 43:18-19, Jeremiah 29:11, and Luke 17:11-19.

Key takeaways from the sermon included:

  • A God of New Beginnings: Drawing from Isaiah, Prof. Ngamau reminded us that God is always doing a "new thing," and we should look forward with expectation rather than dwelling on the past.

  • Plans for Hope: Referencing the beloved promise in Jeremiah 29:11, he emphasized that God’s plans for us—both individually and as a university—are for a future filled with hope.

  • The Power of Submission: A central theme of the message was the importance of submitting to God’s will. Prof. Ngamau noted that it is only through unwavering faith and submission that we can truly witness God's deliverance and provision.

"Our God is a God of new beginnings who plans to give everyone a hope and a future." — Prof. Kamau Ngamau

Leadership and Unity

The service was graced by the university’s top leadership, marking a significant first gathering for the year. In attendance were:

  • Prof. Esther Mombo, Ag. Vice-Chancellor

  • Prof. Abraham Waithima, DVC-Academic Affairs

  • Dr. Mwirigi Kiula, DVC-Finance and Administration

Their presence underscored the university's commitment to grounded, faith-based leadership as we navigate the year ahead. As we embark on this journey into 2026, we do so with the confidence that our "Promised Future" is secure in God’s hands.
