In the recent years, the Justice system in Kenya has grappled with a backlog of court cases that have occasioned delayed in delivery of justice. This necessitated reforms that saw inclusion of alternative avenues for litigation, mediation being among them. As a result, various measures have been put in place to advance mediation as one of the alternatives including empowerment of legal practitioners with mediation skills.
In keeping with this emerging trend, the St. Paul’s University Institute of LifeLong Learning in partnership with Dispute and Conflict International began offering Certified Professional Mediator course targeting Church and religious leaders, community leaders, people interested in dispute and conflict resolution, and people interested in being accredited by the Judiciary as mediators.
The next class for the Certified Professional Mediator course is scheduled for 20th July 2026. The course seeks to encourage learners to embrace mediation as an alternative to dispute resolution and equip them with skills to mediate in a variety of disputes and conflicts e.g workplace conflicts, commercial and contractual disputes, family disputes, and employment and labour disputes among others.
