Welcome Message

The research and innovation agenda for St. Paul’s University is stipulated in the University Statues, implemented through the Directorate of Research and Innovation since its founding in 2015. The mandate of the Directorate is guided by the University Research Policy (URP) and Guidelines (2023). The work of the Directorate is implemented through 5 key committees:

  1. The University Research Board (URB): responsible for the strategic management of research at the university.
  2. Grants Consultancy and Community Engagement Committee (GCCEC): management of internal grants procedures and policies.
  3. Institutional, Scientific and Ethical Review Board (ISERC): constituted according to the guidelines provided by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) and oversees ethical aspects of all research in the university. Also serves as ethical clearance body for external researchers or consultants.
  4. Innovation and Intellectual Property Committee: oversee the innovation and IP aspects of the university
  5. Publications Committee: Primarily manages the University Journal, the African Multidisciplinary Journal of Research (AMJR)

The main objective of the St. Paul’s University Research and Innovation Directorate is to promote a dynamic culture of research, innovation, and scholarship that advances knowledge and societal development. The Directorate achieves this through:

  1. The training and capacity building of researchers and students,
  2. The organization of local and international research conferences, and
  3. The publication of scholarly articles through the African Multidisciplinary Journal of Research (AMJR).

It also oversees the institutional scientific and ethical review of research protocols as mandated by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), ensuring that all research conducted under the university meets the highest ethical and professional standards. Through these initiatives, the Directorate strengthens research excellence, encourages innovation, and contributes to evidence-based policy and community transformation. Innovation is also a critical aspect of the Directorate, which is spearheaded through the newly formed SPU Innovation Park (iPark).
