SPU Strengthens International Partnerships Through Erasmus+ Programme in Spain

SPU Strengthens International Partnerships Through Erasmus+ Programme in Spain

SPU Admin Blog 05 June 2026

St. Paul’s University (SPU) is taking its mission of internationalization to new heights! As part of our ongoing commitment to global excellence, an SPU delegation is currently in Malaga, Spain, participating in the 2nd Edition of the Erasmus+ Staff Week, hosted by CPIFP Alan Turing.

Building on the incredible foundation laid during the inaugural Staff Week in 2025, this year’s engagement is unlocking massive opportunities for academic exchange, cutting-edge industry partnerships, and institutional capacity building.

From the Classroom to Malaga: Student Internships Launched

We are thrilled to celebrate a major milestone of this partnership: two of our very own students, Stacy Githua and Eugenia Faith Anyango, have officially commenced a prestigious three-month internship at 64 Software Train, a leading technology company based in Malaga.

"These internships bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world global practice, giving our students invaluable international industry exposure."

What’s Next for SPU Tech & STEM Students?

During the Staff Week consultations, the SPU team engaged in high-level discussions to secure even more opportunities within the renowned Malaga Tech Hub. Future plans include:

  • Job Shadowing: For faculty and staff to bring global best practices back to SPU.
  • Industrial Attachments: Hands-on roles in international tech firms.
  • Targeted Placements: Tailored opportunities specifically for students pursuing Computer Science, BBIT, and other STEM-related programmes.

A Strategic Leap for Competency-Based Education (CBE)

This partnership comes at a defining moment. As St. Paul’s University prepares for the rollout of Competency-Based Education (CBE), bridging the gap between academia and the corporate world is more critical than ever.

By immersing our students and staff in global tech ecosystems like Malaga's, we are ensuring that SPU’s curriculum remains agile, forward-thinking, and aligned with international industry standards.

Picturing Success: SPU in Spain

Our team has been hard at work representing the university on the global stage. Check out some of the highlights from the trip:

  • Global Collaboration: The SPU team alongside fellow international participants at the 2026 Erasmus+ Staff Week, following a series of successful strategic consultations.
  • Putting SPU on the Map: The team proudly posing after delivering a stellar presentation at the event. This session also marked the official reception of Stacy and Eugenia into the Erasmus+ project as they kicked off their 3-month journey at 64 Software Train.

The Erasmus+ Impact

Through the Erasmus+ programme, St. Paul’s University continues to elevate its international profile, secure vital funding, and pioneer collaborative projects. We are immensely proud of our staff and students who are flying the SPU flag high in Spain, proving that we don't just train graduates—we produce globally competitive leaders.

Stay tuned to our blog and social media channels for updates on Stacy and Eugenia's journey in Malaga!

Expanding Global Horizons: SPU Limuru Campus Hosts Esteemed Spanish Erasmus+ Delegation

SPU Admin Blog 05 June 2026

St. Paul’s University has taken another monumental step forward in its internationalization agenda! Continuing the momentum of our global partnerships, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Esther Mombo, warmly hosted a high-level delegation from various Spanish institutions at our beautiful Limuru Campus.

The visiting delegation is part of the Erasmus+ Programme, the European Union’s flagship initiative that funds education, training, youth, and sport across the globe. Arriving on May 30th, our Spanish partners have been engaged in an intensive, week-long collaboration that wraps up on Saturday, June 6th, 2026.

Shaping the Future of Higher Education

This reciprocal visit beautifully complements SPU’s ongoing engagements in Europe. While our students and staff have been making waves during the Erasmus+ Staff Week in Malaga, Spain, this on-campus forum allowed the broader SPU community to directly engage with international scholars.

Throughout the week, staff and students packed halls to delve into interactive dialogues covering:

  • Global Insights: Cross-cultural academic perspectives that enrich our research footprint.
  • Diverse Perspectives: Understanding regional and international shifts in global job markets.
  • Emerging Trends: Navigating how artificial intelligence (AI), technology, and industry expectations are reshaping global higher education.

"At SPU, we are intentionally fostering a global academic exchange. Connecting our students and faculty with scholars from around the world ensures that we don't just teach—we expand worldviews."

— Prof. Esther Mombo, Ag. Vice Chancellor

Building a Truly Global Campus

This visit highlights SPU's unwavering dedication to producing globally competitive graduates by weaving international expertise directly into our campus culture. By exchanging ideas on curriculum evolution and industry alignment, SPU ensures its academic offerings remain robust and forward-thinking.

As we bid ¡Adiós! to our wonderful partners this Saturday, we celebrate the cross-continental bridge built this week—one that promises more research grants, student exchanges, and joint academic breakthroughs in the near future!

Shaping the Future of Justice: SPU Milestones a Major Step in Launching the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Programme

Shaping the Future of Justice: SPU Milestones a Major Step in Launching the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Programme

SPU Admin Blog 29 May 2026

Every great institution is built on milestones that redefine its future. For St. Paul’s University (#SPU), that moment is happening right now in the legal education sector.

On the evening of Tuesday, 26th May 2026, the serene ambiance of the Sovereign Suites Hotel along Limuru Road played host to a celebration of academic excellence, foresight, and leadership. Prof. Esther Mombo, the Acting Vice Chancellor of St. Paul's University, hosted an appreciation dinner for Dr. Mathias Sylvester Nkuhi to honor his invaluable contribution to the development of SPU’s upcoming Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) curriculum.

More Than an Academic Exercise: The Vision for SPU Law

The development of an LL.B curriculum is not just a routine administrative task; it is a profound, strategic investment in the future of governance, leadership, and societal justice.

As legal and social landscapes rapidly evolve across Kenya and the globe, the contemporary world demands a different kind of legal professional. SPU’s upcoming law programme is being meticulously engineered to fill that gap. The curriculum aims to shape a new generation of legal minds who will:

  • Defend human rights passionately and fearlessly.

  • Uphold the rule of law with absolute integrity.

  • Contribute to ethical governance across corporate and public sectors.

  • Address complex, emerging social challenges with innovative legal solutions.

"Dr. Nkuhi’s guidance, professional insights, and scholarly input have played a significant role in helping #SPU develop a curriculum that aspires to meet high academic and professional standards while remaining grounded in ethical values, social justice, and servant leadership."

— Prof. Esther Mombo, Ag. Vice Chancellor

A United Leadership for a Historic Milestone

The gravity of this upcoming program was reflected in the high-profile university delegation that joined Prof. Mombo for the evening. The event brought together key administrative and academic leaders who will oversee the integration of the law school into the larger SPU ecosystem.

Key SPU Dignitaries in Attendance:

  • Dr. Mwrigi Kiula – DVC, Finance & Administration

  • Dr. Petronilla Otuya – Dean, School of Education and Social Sciences & Ag. DVC-Academic Affairs

  • Dr. Ruth Ndanu King’oo – Registrar, Academics

  • Mr. James Mururi – Registrar in-charge of Administration

  • Mrs. Emmah Kirwa – HOD, Department of Social Sciences

This powerful show of solidarity highlights SPU's institutional readiness to back this new program with robust infrastructure, top-tier faculty support, and seamless academic administration.

The SPU Difference: Intellectual Competence & Servant Leadership

What will make an LL.B graduate from St. Paul's University stand out? The answer lies in the university's core mission.

The SPU law programme won't just teach the mechanics of the law; it will cultivate the heart of a servant leader. The curriculum is uniquely designed to ensure that graduates emerge intellectually competent, ethically grounded, and socially responsible. Whether practicing in local courts or navigating international legal frameworks, SPU law graduates will be equipped to serve with distinction.

Stay tuned to our official channels as we take the final steps toward officially launching the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme!

Reading the Signs of the Times: African Church Leaders Gather in Nairobi to Map Out Missional Pathways

SPU Admin Blog 02 June 2026

The role of the Church in Africa is shifting from one of quiet lament to active, prophetic transformation. This was the resounding message at the recently concluded Africa Communion of Reformed Churches (ACRC) workshop, which brought together over 50 delegates from across the continent.

Held at the Milele Hotel in Nairobi from May 28th to May 29th, 2026, the two-day gathering united church leaders, academics, and ecumenical partners from nations including Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Malawi, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Representing St. Paul’s University-Kenya was our Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Esther Mombo, who joined other distinguished voices to discern the Church’s role in Africa's evolving geopolitical landscape.

The Theme: A Call to Discern and Act

Under the theme “Reading the Signs of the Time: Current Geopolitical Position of Africa, Challenges and Opportunities for the Church,” the workshop served as a vital platform for fellowship, discernment, and prophetic engagement.

Participants were challenged to move beyond traditional boundaries and become a discerning, confessing, witnessing, and continually reformed Church. The ACRC emphasized that the Church cannot afford to be a passive bystander to the economic and social realities affecting the continent. Instead, it must actively participate in societal transformation—working hand-in-hand with governments, civil society, and local communities to confront injustice and nurture hope.

"The Church must faithfully read the signs of the times and chart missional pathways that uphold the dignity of every African person."

Key Insights from Distinguished Speakers

The workshop featured a robust lineup of thought leaders and academics who addressed the multifaceted challenges facing modern Africa:

  • Navigating Economic Headwinds: Dr. Julius Kipngetich delivered insights on steering through Africa’s economic shifts, geopolitical changes, corporate governance, and the necessity of sustainable church leadership.

  • The Digital & Cultural Frontier: Rev. Dr. Kevin Muriithi Ndereba spoke on reading digital and cultural signs, urging the Church to remain relevant in a rapidly technological world.

  • Gender Justice: Our own Prof. Esther Mombo shared profound reflections on gender justice and the critical importance of reclaiming the prophetic voice of the church to protect the vulnerable.

  • Value-Based Governance: Rev. Dr. Linda Ochola focused on activating grassroots civic transformation and value-based governance through the local church.

  • Advocacy & Peace Building: Canon Chris Kinyanjui addressed the complexities of legislative advocacy, peacebuilding, and ethical governance within fragile political landscapes.

Strengthening Ecumenical Ties

The ACRC, a vital sub-group of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC), demonstrated strong institutional leadership at the event. Key dignitaries in attendance included:

Leader Role
Most Rev. Dr. U. Onwunta ACRC President
Rev. Dr. L. Mpetsheni ACRC General Secretary
Rev. Dr. Robert Waihenya PCEA Secretary General & WCRC Executive Member

Moving Forward

As the workshop concluded, the mandate left for African theological institutions and church bodies was clear: to foster a faith that does not shy away from political, economic, and digital realities, but rather engages them to restore human dignity across the continent. St. Paul’s University remains committed to walking this missional path, equipping the next generation of leaders to read the signs of the times with wisdom and courage.
