Library Sections

Circulation

Is responsible for charging out and processing the return of library materials, and ensuring the library collection is well organized for fast retrieval of materials.

Acquisition

Is responsible for providing acquisitions of all library materials to support academic programmes.

Processing

Supports the teaching and research mission of the University by providing descriptive and subject access to the University Libraries' collections through records in the SPU library Catalogue.

E-resources

Aims to ensure online access to and integrity of bibliographic and holdings data of the collections in all formats. Manages acquisition, deployment and support for computer hardware and software for library personnel and public access and training areas. The department is also responsible for the management of the library systems and servers.

Archives and Special collection

The special collections are mostly made up of Africana books and SPU students’ researches, theses and dissertation. It also house Bibles in different African. Others are important Archives (documents of enduring value) of the SPU.

Here is a list of frequently asked questions and their solutions

How can I access Wi-Fi in the library?

To access Wi-Fi within the library one has to log in using the same credentials they use to log into their students portal. For a first time user, the laptop has to be configured by the library or ICT staff.

Can I access e-resources off-campus?

Yes. Enter the following URL on the address bar and log in using the student’s portal credentials https://libraryspu.remotexs.co/user/login.

What’s the process & requirement for registering with the library in order to start using the library services?

The records of registered students are directly uploaded into the Library Information system and therefore for a student to access the library, he/she needs to come with their student ID. In a case where you don’t have one you can come with your national ID and admission letter, until the student ID is provided to you.

Can I renew a book when off campus?

Yes, just write an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and request for the book(s) to be renewed. In your email indicate your name and admission number.

Once the book has been renewed, you will be notified together with the due date through email. However, renewal can only be done once.

For how long can I borrow/use the library laptop?

The library laptop can only be used within the library for four hours, and when the demand is not high one can renew for another 2 hours.
