A Media/Academia Practitioners Workshop on Reporting Religion: Knowledge, News and Noise Making in the Age of Violent Extremism

SPU will host the above conference on 3rd
February 2017 at the Postgraduate Centre and is being convened by Dr. Halkano Abdi Wario, Volkswagen Foundation Humanities Fellow at St. Paul’s University/Egerton University and Dr. Joseph Wandera from the Centre for Christian Muslim Relations in Eastleigh and senior Lecturer at St. Paul’s University.
The key note address by Dr. Halkano A. Wario will tackle the intricate relations between print media and religious knowledge dissemination and an overview of success stories and challenges faced in Volkswagen Foundation Humanities Project ‘Printing Knowledge, Informing Umma: Historical and Contextual Analysis of Kenya’s Friday Bulletin.
Among the responders are Jesse Masai and Abdullahi Boru and general responses and discussions on the theme of the presentation will be open to all participants.
The roundtable discussions on ‘Reporting Religion: Knowledge, News and Noise Making in the Age of Violent Extremism’ based on key questions of the workshop will have the following panelists: Prof. Esther Mombo, Dr. Julius Kithinji, Faustin Chongombe, John Mwangi, Jesse Masai.
